Oceanwide Plaza is a prominent yet unfinished mixed-use development situated in downtown Los Angeles, directly across from the Crypto.com Arena and the Staples Convention Center. Envisioned as a transformative project for the South Park neighborhood, it was designed to encompass three high-rise towers atop a substantial retail podium. The development was to feature a five-star Park Hyatt hotel with 183 rooms and 164 branded residences, alongside 504 luxury condominiums spread across the twin 40-story towers. Amenities were to include a 166,000-square-foot open-air retail galleria, a two-acre sky park, and an 850-foot LED ribbon screen along Figueroa Street, intended as the largest in the U.S.
Construction commenced in 2015 but was halted in 2019 due to financial difficulties faced by the developer, Beijing-based Oceanwide Holdings. By that time, approximately $1.1 billion had been invested, with an estimated $800 million required to complete the project. The site has since become a canvas for graffiti artists and a symbol of stalled urban development, drawing significant public attention and concern over safety and urban blight.
In response to the prolonged stagnation, The Manati Group has been selected to spearhead an initiative to revive and complete Oceanwide Plaza. This effort is in collaboration with The Danyel Group, Greentech Global & Portable Turbine Energy, aiming to reinvigorate the project and fulfill its original vision as a landmark destination in Los Angeles. Details regarding the specific plans and timelines for this initiative are forthcoming.
